Commencing his political career as a student union leader, Captain Rudy has a span of more than two decades of active politics behind him. He was elected as a MLA from his home state of Bihar in the year 1990 (at the age of 28).He served as the national vice-president of the youth wing of BJP to be later elevated as General Secretary and Spokesperson of the party. He was elected to Parliament from Chapra in Bihar in 1996 and re-elected in 1999 and inducted as Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry in the year 2001.He was subsequently elevated as Civil Aviation Minister with an independent charge in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government in 2003. He was a Rajya Sabha Member from July 2008 to June 2014.Mr. Rudy was re-elected to the 16thLok Sabhaand was sworn in as a Union Minister of Statefor Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge) and Parliamentary Affairs on 9th November, 2014.Notably, the Hon. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi created the Ministry of Skill Development for the first time in Independent India, a mission close to his heart on the same day he was sworn in.
The aviation industry earlier had witnessed large policy initiatives during his earlier tenure ranging from privatization of Delhi and Mumbai airports (brownfield projects), Hyderabad and Bangalore airports (Greenfield projects), launch of low cost airlines, permission of private airlines to fly international, revision of charter policy, reducing excise duty on ATF with several policy initiatives, establishing himself as an architect of major Civil Aviation reforms in the Vajpayee government.
Having lost his father at an early age of five, propelled by sheer dedication and support of family, he rose to achieve a degree in Law from Panjab University, Chandigarh. Enrolled as an Advocate in Patna, hehas also rendered his teaching skills as a lecturer of Economics, Secretary of the Constitution Club of India, has now emerged as a leading public face in the Government having shared major responsibilities in the party as well.
His journey traversed from General Secretary of the Panjab University Student's union at Chandigarh to remote rural regions of Bihar and subsequently positioning himself in the National scene. He is a firm believer in destiny and a person with deep concern about issues ranging from poverty, environment, industry and initiatives to instill National Pride.
He is credited as the only Parliamentarian on globe operating Airbus-320 Jets, flying with one of the largest private airlines in India as a Senior First Officer and also figures in the Limca Book of World Records.
