Mr. Raghavan is the Founder and Chairman of Agastya International Foundation (www.agastya.org), the world's largest hands-on mobile science education program for economically disadvantaged children and rural teachers. In 1998 Mr. Raghavan left a career in banking in London to create AGASTYA, a transformative and innovative education charity in India whose mission is “to spark curiosity, nurture creativity and instill confidence” in economically disadvantaged children and rural schoolteachers.
Operating with a team of 700 staff, fleet of 105 Mobile Van Labs, 55 Lab-on-Motorbikes, 45 science centers and a 172-acre campus Creativity Lab near Bangalore, Agastya has reached creative hands-on education to over 5 million disadvantaged children and 200,000 teachers and pioneered innovations including mobile science, Young Instructor Leaders (children-teaching-children) and a Creativity Lab that incorporates science labs, an interactive museum, model making, teacher training, art and ecology. Agastya won the Google Global Impact Challenge 2013 and was nominated to The Rockefeller Foundation’s NextCentury gallery of global innovators.
