Dilip Modi, Managing Director, S Mobility Limited

Dilip is a new generation tech entrepreneur who has been spearheading mobility innovations.Dilip started his career in the early 90s, working closely with McKinsey to restructure Group businesses. With an eye on the future, he led the entry of his Group into the sunrise telecom sector in 1995 by creating Modi Telstra, India’s first mobile service provider. He rose to become its Chairman in July 1999 before its successful divestment from the Group in 2000.Dilip became the Chairman and Managing Director of Spice Communications, a leading telecom service provider in Punjab & Karnataka. He was instrumental in building 'Spice Telecom' as a dynamic mobile telephony brand, leading the company through a successful and oversubscribed IPO in July 2007.Dilip is currently the Managing Director of S Mobility Limited, the emerging digital innovation company offering mobile internet products and services across India, ASEAN and parts of Africa. He is also on the board of several other Spice group companies including Spice Global, Spice Finance & Spice Enfotainment, in addition to being the executive Vice Chairman of Spice I2I.Apart from managing his businesses successfully, Dilip is equally passionate about playing his role in nation building and this attribute is widely recognized by corporate India.

He is the youngest ever President of the Associated Chambers of Commerce (ASSOCHAM), the oldest chamber of India. He is very passionately driving the ASSOCHAM agenda of "Making Inclusive Transformation Happen" in the country. He was also the youngest Chairman of the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), for the years 2004 -2005.

He was recently awarded the "Youth Icon Award" by the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry for his visionary leadership. He is driven by his firm belief of technology being the key enabler for achieving inclusive growth.

Dilip holds a First Class Bachelor of Science Degree in Management Technology from the Brunel University, London, UK. He has also done his Masters in Business Administration from the Management School at the Imperial College, London, with a specialization in Finance.

Sushmita Ghosh, President Emeritus- Ashoka & Member – AFI's Advisory Board

After completing a five-year term as President of Ashoka, Sushmita continues as a member of Ashoka’s Leadership Team, and Chair of Changemakers which she founded. A former journalist who served as Research Director and Executive Director of Maneka Gandhi’s national Indian news magazine Surya from 1979 to 1982, Sushmita served as Ashoka’s country representative for India from 1989 to 1997. During that time, she helped Ashoka launch its new programs in Latin America and direct its European fundraising efforts.She founded Changemakers in 1992, which she evolved from a magazine for social entrepreneurship to an online platform for open source problem-solving. Sushmita also serves on the boards and councils of several global and Indian organizations.

Ed Cutrell manages the Technology for Emerging Markets (TEM) group at Microsoft Research India. Ed received his PhD in cognitive neuroscience, and has been working in the field of human-computer interaction for more than a decade. His current research focuses on Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D). In this work, he seeks to understand how people in the world’s poor and developing communities interact with information technologies, exploring new ways for technology to meet their needs, aspirations and support socio-economic development.

Natesh B V, Director, Emerging Markets Services, Nokia India

Natesh heads the emerging markets services initiatives at Nokia. He is based in Bangalore, India. Natesh, has been associated with Nokia since 2002 and has held various positions under the functional areas of sales & product marketing both in India and APAC.Prior to Nokia, Natesh served in several capacities at HCL-HP, Wipro and Manipal Education. Natesh has served as a featured speaker at a number of industry business and technical events in Asia.Natesh has a Bachelors of Engineering degree in Engineering from RVCE, Bangalore. A Masters degree in Computer Aided Design from Mysore University, and a MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.

Vice President and Governing Council Member, ISKCON-Bangalore Vice Chairman, India Heritage FoundationBorn in 1963 in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. While an undergraduate student in PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, he became interested in the message and mission of Srila Prabhupada, the founder-acharya of ISKCON. Later he joined the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore for the ME program in Electrical Communication Engineering. In 1984 he became a full-time dedicated member of ISKCON, Bangalore and soon became the Vice President.As Vice Chairman, Chanchalapathi Dasa, has been spearheading the implementation of the Akshaya Patra program across all locations since its conception in June 2000. This program is a strategic intervention in education which today serves nutritious mid-day school meals to over 1.3 million underprivileged children in 18 locations in 9 states across India.He was involved in the conception, script development and creative direction of Little Krishna, a 13-episode 3D animation film that was a prime time show on Nickelodeon Channel in India, soon to be taken around the world.

Srinivas "Srini" Garudachar is Director – Strategic Business Development at Grameen Intel Social Business Pvt. Ltd., a social business JV between Grameen Trust (of Bangladesh) & Intel, with a charter to develop appropriate ICT enabled solutions to the major problems related to poverty in this world.Srini is a very passionate and committed social entrepreneur and an accomplished ICT professional with a strong competence of innovating & applying appropriate technology interventions for maximizing business (now social business!) advantage. This has been the common thread thru his senior level global executive positions at General Electric (CIO), Intel (Principal Architect; Director Rural Data Services – New Biz Initiative Incubator). As an entrepreneur, he co-founded and ran a telecom convergence co – TeleParadigm Networks, taking it successfully thru to its international M&A. He has advised several national and provincial governments in APAC on their Vision level “G2B & G2C” initiatives and is a sought after speaker on ICT for Development, Sustainability & Rural business modeling.Committed lifelong to the cause of sustainable development of the down-trodden, he is exploring and building "IT-in-a-Box" type tools, value-chains, sustainable biz models that target and accelerate large scale socio-economic inclusion of BoP communities, while creating engines of social entrepreneurship, employment and growth.He has extensive experience in incubating, mentoring and successfully running BoP oriented social biz's focused on fulfilling the unmet needs (esp livelihoods) of the rural agrarian poor. He is an Executive Committee Member of The Orchid Society of Karnataka, a Charter Member of TiE (The IndUS Entrepreneurs) Bangalore, & has served as an advisor to several technology (& social biz’s) cos from their startup to growth.

Srini is a BE (Mechanical Engg) & a Post-Graduate in Statistics and Engineering from Kansas State University, USA and was awarded a Six Sigma Blackbelt at General Electric.

Anil Swarup

Anil Swarup is currently Director General, Labour Welfare and Additional Secretary, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India handling issues relating to the welfare of unorganized sector workers and the implementation of National Health Insurance Scheme (RSBY). In just over three years of implementation of this cashless and smart card based health insurance scheme, around 90 million people have been provided insurance cover. The scheme has come to be recognized world over and was selected by UNDP/ILO as one of the top social security schemes for publication. In his earlier roles, he has handled various roles within the Government of India, Public Sector Undertakings, and International Organizations. He also has various awards to his credit for his contributions in the policy space.

Anish Kumar, Program Director, Pradhan

Anish Kumar is the Program Director of Pradhan, an organization that is engaged in grassroots development action in promoting rural livelihoods in India. The organization is involved in activities that include developing business organisations of poor and creating small-holder space in modern value chains.As Program Director of Pradhan, Anish Kumar is based in Delhi and is responsible for organisation-wide integration of the finance function involving raising resources, statutory compliance, building and managing linkages with stakeholders. Anish is a member of the Senior Management Team and handles institution building and the integration of Pradhan's poultry development program spread over 4 states. This involves building and managing linkages with partners and strategic support for scaling-up, current size of community enterprise is approx 1100 million Indian Rupees.Earlier as an Executive of Pradhan based in Madhya Pradesh, Anish developed and grounded small-holder poultry prototype, facilitated the formation of Kesla Poultry Cooperative Society in 2001 and was its first CEO. He integrated and scaled the model across new geographies.; and was responsible for programmatic strategies, building perspectives of the project leaders, capacity building of staff, planning and design of implementation, monitoring progress, setting systems, and raising funds. Anish also provided business planning and development support to PRADAN's teams around micro-enterprise development and producer collectives. Implemented micro-enterprise development, natural resources management and agriculture development programs.Anish Kumar is a Bachelors of Sciences with honours in Chemistry from Hindu College, University of Delhi and ha s a Post Graduate Degree in Forest Management (PGDFM) from Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal.

William Bissell, Managing Director, Fabindia Overseas Pvt. Ltd.

An alumnus of Wesleyan University, Connecticut, William Nanda Bissell returned to India in 1988 to set up and head the Bhadrajun Artisans Trust – an Artisans Cooperative of leatherworkers and weavers based in the state of Rajasthan. The Trust now operates a rural school in the same area with over 700 students.In 1999 he became the Managing Director of Fabindia. The company established in 1960, today has 146 stores across India, eight outlets abroad. It is India's largest private retail platform for a wide range of products produced using craft-based processes that derive from traditional skills and techniques and links contemporary urban markets with traditional craft-based, largely rural producers, offering discerning customers merchandise and products that emphasize an alternate to the mass produced.William is also a Director on the board of Fabindia's wholly owned subsidiary, Artisans Micro Finance Private Limited, an NBFC that facilitates the setting up of community owned companies across the country. At present there are 16 community owned companies, which form the core of Fabindia's supply chain: these collectively have about 80,000 artisan share-holders, with a commitment to taking this number to 100,000 over the next few years. The government of the state of Orissa has recently signed an MoU with AMFPL for the setting up of a community owned company in the state.More recently, William has authored the book "Making India Work" that takes a hard look at the issues facing our country and the radical out of the box re-think necessary to catalyze change.

Anurag Gupta, Founder and Director, A Little World
Anurag Gupta

Anurag Gupta, has been instrumental in the conceptualization of the ZERO platform for branchless banking, and in bringing key banks such as SBI and industry majors such as Nokia and NXP to support the implementation Financial Inclusion in villages. An architect by education, Anurag is the founder of A Little World and Zero Microfinance and Savings Support Foundation – a not-for-profit Section 25 Company which today acts as a Business Correspondent to 14 banks in 17 States across India.He is also a part of several initiatives with banks, regulators, universities, standards bodies, government and industry to support standardization and enhanced security for mass deployment in the Indian environment.
